Home Heating with Biodiesel

Home heating with BIODIESEL

Heating oil is simply off-road diesel fuel. ANY heating oil furnace can use a B20 BIODIESEL blend without modification. B20 BIODIESEL(20% BIODIESEL + 80% petrol-diesel) is the most common home heating oil blend and is available now throughout Oregon. Higher blends up to b99 (99.9% BIODIESEL + 0.1% petrol-diesel) can be used in furnaces approved by a qualified home heating technician.

Getting Started::
Before you begin using BIODIESEL, SeQuential recommends that you get an annual furnace tune-up and inspection from a qualified technician to ensure that your system is free of leaks, has a new fuel filter and nozzle and is running at peak efficiency. At the time of inspection, a trained HVAC professional will visually inspect the furnace for wear and perform a combustion analysis. Most service problems in home heating furnaces that switch to BIODIESEL have been associated with inconsistent maintenance before the decision to change fuels. Regardless of whether you use BIODIESEL or petrol-diesel, an annual service of your heating system can improve the efficiency of your furnace by as much at 20%--both reducing exhaust emissions and saving you money.

B20 bIODIESEL for Home Heating::
B20 BIODIESEL has performed flawlessly over the past 3 years in heating homes in Portland and Eugene Oregon. Running B20 BIODIESEL in home heating furnaces has resulted in longer periods between vacuuming, more consistent heat transference, and lowered emissions of particulate matter. B20 BIODIESEL burns cleaner, and produces as much heat as petrol heating oil.

B20 BIODIESEL for home heating is now available in many locations throughout
Oregon. Check here for BIODIESEL home heating availability in your city.

Discount for new and returning Portland customers::
Both new and current BIODIESEL home heating customers in Portland Oregon will receive a one-time $50.00 discount from Portland Green Heat for a furnace tune-up (amounts to 1/3 off the regular price).

B99.9 bIODIESEL Home Heating:: the Ultimate in Cleaner, Domestically-Made Heating.
You can use blends of BIODIESEL higher than 20% (B20 BIODIESEL) to heat your home—up to and including B99.9 BIODIESEL. Using B99.9 BIODIESEL, however, may require modification to your heating system. Any evaluation or modification to your heating system should be conducted by a qualified home heating technician who is knowledgeable of BIODIESEL and its operation in home heating systems. This service would include a standard maintenance tune-up and inspection. Modifications may be necessary to mitigate the THREE CONSIDERATIONS (The 3 C’s) for  BIODIESEL use :: Compatibility with Materials, Cleaning Effect, and Cold Flow. Custom built heating systems may require too many potential modifications for simple conversion guidelines. SeQuential recommends consulting a qualified home heating technician.

A home heating B99.9 BIODIESEL conversion could involve replacing the traditional heating oil fuel pump with a B100 BIODIESEL-warranted and approved heating oil pump, changing rubber components, adding insulation or heating tape, and possibly installing a new pre-heating filter. A qualified technician can recommend the exact components necessary for converting your system. B99.9 BIODIESEL heating conversions could vary in price, depending on your particular set-up, from no additional cost to several hundred dollars.

Finding a BIODIESEL Friendly Home Heating Technician::
The numbers of HVAC (heating, ventilating, and air-conditioning) businesses that are knowledgeable of BIODIESEL is small but growing. You may contact your local BIODIESEL distributor to request a referral for qualified home heating technicians.

SeQuential BIOFUELS periodically conducts training courses for HVAC professionals who wish to expand their knowledge of BIODIESEL in home heating systems. Please contact Gavin Carpenter at SeQuential Biofuels (503.978.3210) to reserve a spot in the next available course.
