SeQuential Pacific Biodiesel plant reaches 10 million gallons of fuel made from recycled cooking oil

Portland, OR, Seattle, WA – SeQuential-Pacific Biodiesel’s Salem plant surpasses 10 million gallons of biodiesel produced.  SeQuential-Pacific Biodiesel (SQPB) is the largest biodiesel producer from recycled cooking oil in the Northwest.

The current plant, built in 2008 as a joint venture between Oregon’s SeQuential Biofuels and Hawaii based Pacific Biodiesel, represents over $11 million dollars investment in the local economy.  The plant has a 17 million gallon annual capacity using recycled cooking oil as the source of feedstock.  Production has been increasing steadily reaching the 10 million gallon milestone this October. This represents a reduction of harmful carbon dioxide emissions by over 161 million pounds.

SQPB’s collection, production, and biodiesel sales are based throughout the Northwest with depots in Kent, Washington – Portland, Oregon, and Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. This community scale model supports the local economy by keeping dollars and jobs in the region.  SQPB currently employs over 60 workers in Oregon, Washington, and Idaho. These employees are part of the renewable fuel industry, earning a living wage along with medical and dental benefits.

SQPB collects used cooking oil from restaurants in Oregon, Washington and Idaho.  Some of the locations include Dick’s Drive-In, Burgerville, New Seasons Market, Safeco Field, Century Link Field, and Pike Place Market.  SQPB processes the oil into biodiesel for consumers and fleets with diesel vehicles.  Fleets and locations currently using SQPB biodiesel include, Nike, City of Portland, Recology, Genesee Heat, Snohomish Coop, Organically Grown Company, plus 35 retail outlets in the Pacific NW.

The environmental benefits of biodiesel are numerous, producing 78% less carbon dioxide and 99% less Sulfur Dioxide pollution than traditional petroleum diesel. SQPB is a BQ-9000 certified producer, a stringent quality designation from The National Biodiesel Accreditation Program.
